Abstract Jefriyanto Ayuba. NIM 321 41 4 032. Semiotic Analysis On Kim Addonizio's Poems (An Analysis Types of Sign by using Charles Sanders Pierce Theory of Semiotic). English Department, Faculty of Letters and Culture, State University of Gorontalo. Advisors: 1) Rusni podungge, S.Pd, M.A 2) Farid Muhammad, S.Pd, M.A Poetry in literature is viewed as something that very complicated to explain, because has meaning that relate directly to the feelings of the poet. This research aims at describing how semiotics analysis in selected poems of Kim Addonizio. The type of this research is qualitative method. Moreover, this study used types of sign as semiotic approach to show the meaning of the poems and interpreting the symbols that has been found by using triadic. Charles S. Pierce argues that ����¯�¿�½���¯���¿���½��..."sign is something which is categorized as physic form that can be catches up by the human senses and something other things outside that sign itself����¯�¿�½���¯���¿���½������. The data were collected from Kim Addonizio����¯�¿�½���¯���¿���½����¯�¿�½�¯�¿�½s poems they are ����¯�¿�½���¯���¿���½��..."What do women want?����¯�¿�½���¯���¿���½������, ����¯�¿�½���¯���¿���½��..."first poem of you����¯�¿�½���¯���¿���½������, and ����¯�¿�½���¯���¿���½��..."Aquarium����¯�¿�½���¯���¿���½������. The data is collected through library research. The step of collecting the data is understands the content of the poems by reading the poems itself and making notes of data in every sentence from the selected poems. After the data are collected, the researcher divides the data into icon, index and symbol. Then comes to the analyzing step is categorize the data based on the types of sign and then describes the symbols all in the poems by using triadic. Based on data analysis, there is no icon in three of poems, three indexes and seventeen symbols in three of the poems and they are red dress, thrifty, keys glittering, Mr. and Mrs. Wong, bad dress, garment, birth-cries, love-cries, bones, skin, darkness, lightning, water, serpent, pictures, pain, tank, glass and wings.
