Abstrak
Code-switching has always been an absorbing phenomenon in sociolinguistics. Mostly, the phenomenon happened in bilingual and foreign language class particularly in learning process. This study intends to analyze the students' and lecturers' perceptions toward the use of code switching in English as foreign language classroom. The participants of this research are the students on sixth semesters and lecturers in English Department, Universitas Negeri Gorontalo. The qualitative method is applied for this study because this research tends to describe the perceptions of the participants through interview. This study also used Cresswell (2009) theory as the technique of analyzing the data. As the result of this study, the students believed that the code switching helps them in comprehending the difficult material in sixth semester such as teaching practice 1 and statistics. Additionaly, both students and lecturers agreed that the use of code switching in classroom espesially for sixth semester students can be influence the students' English language learning process. In instance, the students will not habituative in use full English in classroom, practice their listening skill, and improve their vocabulary. Therefore, all the participants strongly agree to minimize the use of code switching in classroom, particularly for those sixth semester students by considering the more of the disadvantages of applying code switching than the advantages.
