Syntactical errors become the major problem of Senior High school students, especially in constructing sentence. However, the basic curriculum (KTSP) of high school in Indonesia requires students to be able to compose several types of text correctly. This study intends to find out the types of syntactical errors made by senior high school students. The participants of this study are grade XI students in SMA Negeri 7 Gorontalo Utara. Qualitative method is applied in the form of descriptive analysis. Data were collected through the test of analytical exposition and interview. The interview was used to confirm the causes of syntactical errors. Theory of Linguistics Category Taxonomy which is proposed by Politzer and Ramirez (1973) is used to classify the types of syntactical errors in students writing of analytical exposition and from Dulay et all (1982) theory of surface category taxonomy to explain the surface changes; omission, addition, misordering, and misformation. This study reveals from 14 types of syntactical errors classification; there are 8 types of syntactical errors are committed. They are Noun phrase; determiners, numbers, the use of pronouns and the use of preposition, Verb phrase; the use of auxiliary verb and subject-verb agreement, verb and verb construction, word order, and passive transformation. This study recommends the English teacher to provide a proper strategy to solve the students' problem, and the further researcher will offer a strategy for solving syntactical errors.
