Project based learning is a learning method which is applicable for all education levels. This study aimed to explore students����¯�¿�½���� perception toward project based learning in teaching writing. Writing is the most essential skill that must be learned in acquiring a new language which should be mastered by the English Department students. Therefore, it is important for the lecturer to apply the best method such as project based learning in writing class. The participants of this study were the students of English Department in the sixth semesters. The researcher only chose some of them by using technique of snowball sampling technique. The qualitative method is applied for this study because this research tends to describe the perceptions of the participants through interview. This study also used Cresswell (2009) theory as the technique of analyzing the data. As the result of this study, the students believed that project based learning helps them to be active learners, can improve their communication and also increase their confident level. Besides that, the researcher found some obstacles which appear while project based learning applied. Therefore, all the participants strongly agree to minimize the obstacles appear by considering the more of the advantages of applying project based learning than the disadvantages.
