Advisor (1) Prof. karmila Machmud, S.Pd, M.A, Ph.D. (2) Dra. Elsje L. Sambouw, M.Hum Listening is the skill that will be the communication way with the other people. Therefore, the researcher conducted this research aims to find out whether dictation technique can increase students� skill in listening. This research, used quantitative method to analyze the data which used pre-experimental design. The researcher used achievement test, especially fill in the blank test refers to descriptive text as the instrument to collecting the data. This research took 21 students of SMPN 1 Mootilango at third grade (Class IX A) as the sample. The result of this research showed the mean score in pre-test was 41.23 and in post-test the mean score was 60.05. in this research, the hypothesis found that tcount>ttable with a value of 17.41>2.09. it means that the hypothesis (H1) is accepted. Thus the conclusion is the dictation technique can increased students� skill in listening of the third grade in SMPN 1 Mootilango Key words: Dictation Technique, Students� Listening Skill
