Learning English should be designed in such a way as to improve student skills, especially in writing. Problem based learning is one of the learning models presented to optimize students' writing skills. Related to this research was designed to find out whether the application of the problem based learning model in teaching English influences students' writing skills. This research is a quasi-experimental research with type one group pre-test ��" post-test design. The research subjects were the eleventh grade students of social science class, which consist of 23 students. The data was collected by a test. The statistical test results show that tcount ��¥ ttable which is tcount = 7.41 and ttable = 2.04 with a degree of significance �± = 0.05. In accordance with the testing criteria of the statistical hypothesis test, it means that H0 hypothesis, namely the use of problem based learning cannot influence students' writing narrative text is rejected. This shows that the use of PBL model contributes to the improvement of students' writing skills. The increase occurred in five aspects of writing, namely the aspects of content, organization, vocabulary, grammar, and mechanics.
