Abstrak

Students opinion toward the use of popular song in listening learning at the 3rd semester of english department students, english department, faculty of letter and culture, universitas negeri gorontalo, advisor: 1. prof karmila machmud, S.pd, M.A,. Ph.D 2. nurlaila husain, SS, M.Pd. The purpose of this research is investigate the students opinion on the use of popular song in listening learning at 3rd semester of english department students. The use of popular song in class has generated many adventages within the learning process. The research question is what is the students opinion toward the use of popular song in listening learning at the 3rd semester of english department student. The researcher conducted interview towards 12 students of english department at 3rd semester and it applied qualitative method while the instrument of collecting data was interview. The research finding showed that most of students in impected positivitly through the use of popular song in listening learning was most of them indicated good vibes. In addition, the students were postivitly believed that method did impact. The exicment in listenng learning. Neverthless, there were few students who relieved that they found it diffulct to to understand the massege of the song lyrics. However, when the popular song was being played for the second time, this students were triggered to look for the meaning of the lyrics. Eventually, this students could figure out the messege of the song. Additionaly, the result of interview showed that lots of students stated that the popular song were beneficial for the learning process. Finally, the finding are strongly reccomended to be use by lecturer and the students. Keywords: students opinion, popular song, teaching listening
