The objective of this study is to find out whether the picture can improve students' reading comprehension in descriptive text. The sample of this study was VIII4 consisted of 20 students of SMP Negeri 8 Gorontalo.
The method used in this study was quantitative research and the research design was pre-experimental design with one group of pre-test, post-test. Technique collecting data was conducted by giving test consists 26 multiple choice items for each test. Data analyzed used formula t-test.
The result of this study shows that there was significant difference on students' reading comprehension of descriptive text by using picture and without picture. It can be seen that the students' scores in the post-test are higher than the pre-test (17 11). Moreover, the result of hypothesis showed that ttest tlist (6,89 2,101). Means, the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted because the value to is higher than tt. Therefore, it can be concluded that teaching reading by using picture can improved the students' comprehension of descriptive text.
