Abstrak
This study aimed to elaborate the students perception towards the use of google translate in English writing in English Department. Specifically, it attempted to address the following question: What are the students perceptions towards the use of Google translate in English writing? The subject of the study is class D that consists of 27. Qualitative research is used to analyze the data. Therefore, a questionnaire and interview question was developed by the researcher based on three indicators perception as cited in BimoWalgito (1990), including; absorption, understanding, and evaluation. Thus, the question has been distributing to the students. the results of my research that the use of Google translate has a positive impact on English department students state University of Gorontalo because, the use of Google translate is very easy to access anywhere so that students quickly carry out assignments given by lecturers inside and outside the classroom, This also indirectly provides benefits for lecturers in the classroom because students fast to answer questioner that given by lecturer. However the use of Google translate still has many shortcomings, this is really not an obstacle for students to use it. Furthermore, all students who have used Google translate revealed that this greatly motivated them in class because they made it easier to access Google translate to do assignments given by the teacher in class compared to use a dictionary without thinking about the impact of using Google translate itself. By considering the results of this study, namely students' perceptions of the use of Google translate so for further research it is recommended to be able to analyze in depth about the results of translation by using Google translate by students. This is to provide feedback an considerations regarding the perception itself. Using Google translate is very helpful but must be careful because not all result from Google translate correctly.
