Abstrak
The aim of this study was to find out the personality of dr.Patterson in Sidney Sheldon���s Tell Me Your Dreams. This Research uses descriptive analysis method by using psychological criticism approach. Descriptive analysis method is the way of describing the facts which are found in the novel in the form of the text which are followed by analysis. This research uses three theory there are structure of personality by Freud, Defense Mechanism by Freud, and Psychopathy by Robert Hare. This research is started by describing the personality of dr.Patterson, then it is analyzed by using Defense mechanism and psychopathy. The researcher found that most of the personality of dr.Patterson is driven by Id like rapist, liar, and manipulator. These personalities finally showed that dr.Patterson was a psychopath. He is a mental ill person who is lack of empathy, lack of Remorse or guilt, compulsive lying, and manipulative. Furthermore the researcher also found that from eight type of Defense Mechanism, dr.Patterson uses six of them and it is Reaction Formation, Denial, Sublimation, Rationalization, Displacement and Projection.
