Literary works are not born from empty space, but are a reflection of phenomena that occur in real life. Likewise with the form of exclusion in real life against individuals or groups that are seen as different by the dominant group. The novel To Kill a Mockingbird contains a lot of this phenomenon in its story. The objectives of this study is to analyze the otherness manifestations that emerge in the To Kill a Mockingbird novel and to analyze the otherness manifestations in the novel that reflect the otherness issues of the real world in the same time and place. This study uses a qualitative method and uses sociology of literature approach. The data source of this research is the novel To Kill a Mockingbird. Data were collected by reading the novel, identifying, and note-taking. The data analysis technique is by means of sociological analysis of literature and analyzing data. The results of this study is that in the text of the novel To Kill a Mockingbird there are manifestations of otherness, namely exclusion of norm violators, exclusion of black people, and exclusion of black defenders. Apart from the text of the novel, Alabama in the real world and Alabama in the novel in the same time has similarities in several events. And the manifestations of othersness in this novel could be inspired by the dead figures and phenomenon Harper Lee happened to witness when she was a child.
