Taboo words can be identified as particular words which are forbidden to be spoken out because they cause offensiveness, harmful, embarrassment and other uncomfortable feelings (Wardhaugh, 2006). Further, the use of taboo words is strongly influenced by culture. Due to the cultural influence, an important matter has always been displayed in society that men are portrayed as individuals who possess discourteous trait which enables them to use any form of taboo words in comparison with women. However, a movie entitled Death Proof does not show the same thing. Considering this, the present research thereby aimed at investigating taboo words in the mentioned movie and focusing on their types and motives. Through the utilization of observation and documentation techniques, the data were utterances of the main characters that contained taboo words. The results revealed that the main characters employ taboo of profanity, obscenity, vulgarity, epithet and insult. Pertaining to women, they succeed to speak those various classifications. Conversely, insult and profanity become the typical types men utter during the movie. Advancing to the motives of using taboo words, it was discovered that psychological, social and linguistic motives do exist and stimulate the main characters to produce taboo words. While such three motives tend to drive men, women on the other hand are merely affected by psychological and social motives. Consequently, the researcher concluded that women characters are more varied to utter taboo words than men. This invention can be supported by the fact that not only black women who utter taboo words in the movie but white people have a significant contribution as well. Even so, women's variability on the employment of taboo words is just limited in certain situations compared to men who apply taboo words almost in the entire contexts. This research is also expected to be beneficial in raising both readers' attitude manner and their comprehension about taboo words.
