Abstrak
This research aimed to find out the frequency of using filler in proposal seminar presentation and the reasons of using filler. This research was conducted at English department and the participants were 5 students who took the proposal seminar exam on March 18, 2022. In collecting the data, this research used mix method techniques and used the theory from Rose and Stentrom. Furthermore, the result of this research found that the utilization of filler was dominant on unlexicalized filler rather than lexicalized filler. Based on the research findings, it shows that the frequency of unlexicalized fillers is higher (172) with an average of 74.78 than the frequency of using lexicalized fillers (31) with an average of 13.48. While for the result of the reasons of using filler were nerveous, forgot the things want to say, reflex, and can�t find the proper words to explain. Therefore, students need to improve their speaking skills, they need more practice to reduce the use of fillers in presentations. Additionally, the researcher suggests that lecturers pay attention to the use of fillers in students when they are in speaking class.
