Psychoanalysis is a study that is still evolving by focusing on personality theory and attempting to discover the source of human behavior as it is reflected in the society in which they live. Psychoanalysis is a very popular study in literature studies, and it is used specifically to examine a character's behavior by focusing on his personality and mental state. This research will investigate and analyze Beatrice Prior, the main character in the novel Divergent, as she struggles to live under the pressure of the surrounding community. This study employs Sigmund Freud's (1923) psychoanalytic theory, which includes the personality structures: Id, Ego, and Superego, as well as defense mechanisms. The descriptive qualitative method was used in this research, with the novel Divergent (2011) by Veronica Roth as a data source. This research focuses on Beatrice Prior as a character, and her personality was examined to determine how it is reflected in her actions. In collecting the data, the researcher used direct quotations from the novel that addressed the research problem by focusing on her life struggles and the pressures she felt that affected her psychology. It is classified as subtopics given in the findings and discussions by the various struggles and how she used defense mechanisms that are found in the story experienced by the character. Data analysis was done descriptively, with a definition of the theory used and appropriate research and sources to compare and support the data.
