Abstrak

The aim of this research is to analyze the character development of Deborah Blau character after she suffered Schizophrenia in "I Never Promised You A Rose Garden" novel. This research used structural approach and also Kraeplin theory as supporting theory to analyze the mental illness. The research method focused to the elements contained in literary works such as characters, plot, setting and theme. Other than that, the researcher used qualitative and descriptive analysis method to analyze the data. The resource of the primary data obtained from the novel I Never Promised You a Rose Garden, meanwhile the secondary data obtained from several books and articles.
