A conjunction is a word used to connect words, phrases, clauses, or sentences. conjunctions are part of important aspect in writing, without conjunctions, we will be forced to use short and simple sentences that do not express the full meaning we want to communicate. Based on the experience of researcher when doing Teaching Practice Program (PPL), there were still many students who had difficulties in using proper and correct conjunctions. Therefore, this research intends to identify and find out the students� errors in using coordinating conjunction in compound sentence writing. This research applied mix method since it is the combination of qualitative and quantitative method in processing the result of the data. Qualitative design to analyze and describe students� errors in the use of coordinating conjunction in compound sentence writing, while quantitative design is to count the percentage of errors occur in students� writing. There are 20 students of SMP 11 Gorontalo taken as the research participants. The data were collected by giving written test. The result of this research reveals that the highest frequency of error made by students were coordinating conjunction and with percentage 41%, the second-largest percentage is coordinating conjunction or with percentage 24%, the third is coordinating conjunction yet with percentage 11%, the fourth one is coordinating conjunction but with percentage 9%, the next one is coordinating conjunction for with percentage 8%, the last one is coordinating conjunction so with percentage 7%. Regarding the result of this research, it is suggested that students should have more practices in writing specially in using coordinating conjunction. Additionally, teachers are also expected to provide more practices, and give them more treatment to increase their skill in writing.
