Abstrak

This research intended to find out the intention of imagery contains in five selected poems by Jane Hirsfield. This research utilized qualitative descriptive method with primary data collection of this research is imagery in the lines of five selected poems. To analyze the poems, the researcher used Arp and Perrine������s (1991) theory of imagery to discover the kinds of imagery in all of selected poems. The research findings showed that all 61 lines of Jane Hirshfield's selected poems is present visual image in 22 data, auditory imagery in 17 data, gustatory imagery in 2 data, organic imagery is represented in 15 data, tactile imagery is represented in 3 data, and kinesthetic imagery is represented in 2 data from the discovered imagery and olfactory imagery being the only category that is not included in the selected poems.
