Abstrak
This research aimed to investigate the current issues of English Department students class of 2019 in writing Comparison and Contrast essay. This research is descriptive qualitative research and for collecting the data, the researcher was used documentation method. Futhermore, All of the information used in this study gathered of 10 students' English exams in Class B in the writing for academic purposes course at the English Department in 2019. The theory of Brown (2003) was used in this study as the steps to analyze the data which consists of aspects of writing include organization, grammar, mechanic, and vocabulary. The results of this study found out there were 114 occurrences that consisted in four aspects of writing which are organization, grammar, mechanic, and vocabulary. The most prevalent issue is mechanic, which accounts for 48 occurrences where it is presumed to be caused by the conventional skills and approaches implemented by writing teachers in writing classes and of a lack of reading, first language transfer, and low writing practice on the part of EFL students.
