Abstrak
Basic teaching skills are skills that must be mastered by every teacher or prospective English teacher. This study aims to determine the extent of pre service English teachers applies the eight basic teaching skills in class. The subjects of this study were seven pre-service English teachers at 7th semester. This research was also carried out using qualitative methods, and the data was obtained through document analysis in the form of learning recordings of teaching practice exams. The results of this study indicate that the application of eight basic teaching skills by preservice English teachers has three assessment criteria. first, teaching skills that are in the very good category, namely, explaining skills (93,88%), variation skills (92,06%) and teaching skills for small groups and individuals (92,86%). Secondly, skills in a good category, namely skills to open and close lessons (75.51%), skills to question skill (67.86%), and skills to classroom management (78.57%). Finally, the skills that are in the enough category are: skills reinforcement (61,90%) and skill to lead small group discussions (63.27%). The quality of the basic skills for preservice English teachers falls into three categories: very good, good, and enough. However, there are still skill components that need to be retrained so that they can be implemented optimally.
