Implicit assumption can lead to the misunderstanding in communication. It is known as presupposition in pragmatic field. It explains the implicit assumption from the speaker while producing the utterance. By understanding this, people would know about the specific information from the background's belief of the speaker in conveying the utterances. This research entitled Presupposition in Mia's Utterances in the novel If I Stay (a novel written by Gayle Forman), is aimed to investigate the types of presupposition found in Mia's utterances in the novel If I Stay. By applying the theory of Yule (1996) about six types of presupposition, 13 of 52 data are discovered in Mia's utterances. They have contained the types of existential presupposition, factive presupposition, nonfactive presupposition, counterfactual presupposition, lexical presupposition, and structural presupposition. Also, the researcher used the qualitative method to find out the data in Mia's utterances in the novel If I Stay.
