Abstrak
Inner conflicts can be found in fictional works as well, which occur within the character because the emergence of inner conflict is caused by the conflict between the character's personality structures, namely the id, ego, and superego as was portrayed in The Novel Frozen II. Thus, this study aims to describe and analyze Elsa's inner conflict studied from Freud's theory of personality. Therefore, this qualitative research used a psychoanalytic approach, without ignoring the narrative elements like character and characterization. The result showed that Elsa's inner conflict arises because there are problems that come from within and outside of herself, including 1) her responsibility as a queen, 2) her past memories, and 3) her family bond with her sister, Anna, hence it made Elsa experiencing neurotics and moralistic anxiety as well as drives her to make several defense mechanisms such as repression, denial, sublimation, and regression. However, Elsa can control all of her problems, allowing her to make peace with herself and avoid mental illness. Keywords: Inner Conflict, Psychoanalytic, Defense Mechanism, Personality, Frozen II.
