Semantic is a study of literal meaning included the expressions of words, phrases, sentences, or even texts and its relationship with each other. The aimed of this research is to find out the types of meaning by using the theory of Leech (1974) as a guideline of the research. Based on the theory, there are seven types of meaning those are denotative meaning, connotative meaning, social meaning, emotive meaning, collocative meaning, reflected meaning and thematic meaning. This research used descriptive qualitative research as the research method. The researcher takes 28 memes. Those are 10 data as denotative meaning, 6 data as social meaning, 6 data as emotive meaning, 3 data as collocative meaning and 3 data as thematic meaning. The data were taken from 9gag Instagram. This study will significantly help the readers, especially English learners to understanding of the types meaning and their respective meanings, it provides the idea that understanding meme is accessible and able to relax after knowing the reality of the hidden meaning of each content.
