Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh adanya suatu kenyataan yang ditemukan bahwa masih rendahnya pemahaman konsep siswa kelas VII SMP pada materi segi empat. Hal ini disebabkan oleh kurangnya aktivitas siswa dalam kegiatan pembelajaran. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui perbedaan pemahaman konsep siswa pada materi segi empat yang diajarkan dengan menggunakan metode penemuan terbimbing dengan yang diajarkan dengan menggunakan metode konvensional.
Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian eksperimen yang populasinya adalah seluruh siswa kelas VII SMP Negeri 8 Gorontalo T.P 2014/2015, dari semua kelas yang ada maka diambil 2 sampel yaitu kelas VII 3 sebagai kelas eksperimen atau dan kelas VII 5 sebagai kelas kontrol.
Hipotesis pada penelitian ini adalah pemahaman konsep siswa yang diajarkan menggunakan metode penemuan terbimbing lebih tinggi dibandingkan dengan pemahaman konsep siswa yang diajarkan menggunakan metode pembelajaran konvensional pada materi segi empat. Langkah awal yang dilakukan dalam menguji hipotesis adalah melakukan pengujian normalitas data. Pengujian normalitas data menggunakan uji liliefors dengan taraf signifikan = 0.05 dan dk= k-1. Hasil pengujian ditemukan bahwa Lhitung < Ldaftar yang berarti data berdistribusi normal. Setelah didapat data berdistribusi normal maka langkah selanjutnya pengujian hipotesis. Pengujian hipotesis menggunakan uji t dengan taraf signifikan = 0.05 dan dk= n1 + n2 -2. Dari perhitungan ditemukan bahwa thitung > ttabel yang berarti hipotesis penelitian yang diajukan tidak diterima atau ditolak. Hal ini berarti dapat disimpulkan terdapat perbedaan pemahaman konsep siswa yang diajarkan menggunakan metode penemuan terbimbing dengan pemahaman konsep siswa yang diajarkan menggunakan metode pembelajaran konvensional pada materi segi empat.

The research was distributed by the existence of a reality which is found that there is still a lack of the understanding concept of students class VII junior high school on reactangle materials. This is caused by the lack of activity of students in learning activities. The purpose of this research is to know the difference of the concept understanding of students on rectangle materials which is taught by using guided discovery method with taught by using conventional methods.
This is a experiment research witch the population is a whole grade VII SMP Negeri 8 Gorontalo 2014/2015, from all the classes that exist, then taken 2 sample that is VII 3 as eksperiment class and VII 5 as control class.
The hypothesis in this study is an the concept understanding of students are taught using guided discovery method is higher compared to the the concept understanding of students taught using conventional method in rectangle materials. The first step conducted in test the hypothesis is doing testing normality of data. Testing the normality of data using liliefors test with significant level = 0.05 and dk = k-1. The results of the test found that Lcount < LList. After obtained the data were normally distributed then the next step is hypotesis testing. Hypotesis testing using t test significant level = 0.05 and dk = = n1 + n2 -2. From the calculations found that tcount > ttable which means the proposed research hypothesis is not accepted or rejected. This means it can be concluded there is a difference in the concept understanding of students taught using the guided discovery method with a difference in the concept understanding of students taught using convensional method on rectangle materials.
