Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian deskriptif dengan pendekatan kualitatif yang bertujuan untuk menganalisis dan menggambarkan kesalahan siswa dalam menyelesaikan soal matematika pada materi operasi aljabar kelas VII SMP Negeri 1 Limboto Kabupaten Gorontalo. Indikator yang digunakan untuk mendeskripsikan kesalahan siswa dalam menyelesaikan soal matematika antara lain (1) Kesalahan konsep, (2) Kesalahan operasi, (3) Kesalahan tanda/notasi, (4) kesalahan pemahaman soal. Teknik pengumpulan data terdiri dari observasi, tes tertulis, dan wawancara. Subjek penelitian adalah siswa kelas VII-1 SMP Negeri 1 Limboto Kabupaten Gorontalo yang telah mempelajari materi operasi aljabar pada tahun ajaran 2017/2018. Sedangkan teknik analisis data yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah reduksi data, penyajian data, dan penarikan kesimpulan/Verifikasi. Berdasarkan analisis data diperoleh hasil bahwa kesalahan siswa dalam menyelesaikan soal matematika kelas VII-1 SMP Negeri 1 Limboto Kabupaten Gorontalo pada materi operasi aljabar masih tergolong sedang. Hal ini disebabkan karena siswa hanya mampu memenuhi sebagian indikator kesalahan siswa. Adapun capaian rata-rata tertinggi berada pada indikator kesalahan konsep 60% dan capaian terendah berada pada indikator kesalahan tanda/notasi dengan capaian 17%.

This research is descriptive research with a qualitative approach to analyze and describe students' errors in resolving mathematical questions in algebra operating materials in Junior High School SMP Negeri 1 Limboto, Gorontalo Regency. The indicators used to describe students' mistakes in solving math problems include (1) Concept errors, (2) Operation errors, (3) Sign/notation errors, (4) Error understanding questions. The data were obtained through observation, written test, and interview. The subject of this research is students of Grade VII in Junior High School SMP Negeri 1 Limboto, Gorontalo Regency who has learned the algebra operation in the academic year of 2017/2018 While the data analysis techniques used in this study are data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion/verification. Based on data analysis, the results showed that students' errors in solving mathematics problems were still classified as moderate. It is because students are only able to fulfill some indicators of students' errors. The highest average achievement is in the 60% concept error indicator, and the lowest achievement is in the indicator of error/notation with the achievement of 17%.
