Penelitian tindakan kelas ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematika siswa dengan menggunakan pendekatan metakognitif pada materi kubus dan balok.
Penelitian ini dilaksanakan pada siswa kelas VIII di SMP Negeri 5 Gorontalo tahun ajaran 2015/2016. Siswa yang diberikan tindakan kelas berjumlah 25 orang, dimana laki-laki 14 orang dan perempuan 11 orang yang rata-rata memiliki kemampuan yang bervariasi, mulai dari siswa yang berkemampuan rendah, sedang, hingga yang berkemampuan tinggi.
Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pada kegiatan siklus I, hasil observasi kegiatan guru mencapai 76,25%, observasi aktivitas siswa mencapai 65,62% sedangkan hasil tes kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematika siswa mencapai 71,1%. Pada siklus II hasil observasi kegiatan guru mencapai 88,12%, observasi aktivitas siswa mencapai 84,37% sedangkan hasil tes kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematika siswa mencapai 88,37%.
Berdasarkan uraian di atas, maka dapat disimpulkan bahwa kegiatan pembelajaran telah berhasil karena siswa sudah mampu meningkatkan kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematika.
Dengan demikian bahwa Hipotesis Penelitian "Jika diterapkan pendekatan metakognitif maka kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematika pada materi kubus dan balok akan meningkat", diterima.

This classroom action research aimed at increasing students' problem solving ability mathematics through metacognitive approach on cube and block topic.
This research was conducted at students of class VIII in SMP Negeri 5 Gorontalo in 2015/2016 academic year. The treated students were 25 in which it consisted of 14 males and 11 females with heterogeneous ability, started from low, middle to high ability.
Finding showed that at cycle I activity, observation result of teacher's activity reached to 76,25%, observation of students' activity reached to 65,62%, meanwhile, testing result of students problem solving ability in mathematics reached to 71,1%. At cycle II, observation result of teacher's activity reached to 88,12%, observation of students' activity reached to 84,37%, meanwhile, testing result of students problem solving ability in mathematics reached to 88,37%.
Based on findings, it concluded that learning activities had succeeded since the students were able to improve their problem solving ability in mathematics.
Therefore, the hypothesis stated "by applying metacognitive approach, students' problem solving ability in mathematics on cube and block topics would increase" was accepted.
