Transportasi umum dilakukan untuk tujuan mewujudkan lalu lintas dan angkutan jalan yang efisien. Angkutan umum merupakan salah satu sarana yang dibutuhkan untuk mendukung aktivitas dan mobilitas sebagian besar masyarakat perkotaan, bagaimanapun majunya suatu perkotaan akan tetap membutuhkan suatu angkutan umum. Namun angkutan kota selalu menjadi salah satu permasalahan transportasi perkotaan dikarenakan jumlah yang banyak dan tidak seimbang, ditambah dengan tidak teraturnya waktu dan tempat berhenti yang sering membuat kemacetan di jalan raya. Tak terkecuali di Kota Gorontalo jalan Trans Sulawesi yakni rute Kota Gorontalo - Atinggola yang merupakan jalan penghubung antara Provinsi Gorontalo dengan Provinsi Sulawesi Utara sering terjadi kemacetan, salah satu penyebabnya adalah jumlah angkutan umum yang lewat sangat banyak akan tetapi tidak seimbang dengan jumlah penumpang yang ada. Tujuan penelitian yaitu mengevaluasi kinerja angkutan umum rute Kota Gorontalo - Atinggola dan mengevaluasi jumlah armada untuk rute Kota Gorontalo - Atinggola. Hasil dari evaluasi kinerja angkutan umum rute Kota Gorontalo - Atinggola tidak memenuhi standar kinerja yang ada, seperti dilihat dari load factor. Untuk load factor statis maksimal yaitu 27% dan untuk load factor dinamis yakni 62%. Sedangkan standar kinerja untuk load factor ditetapkan 70% oleh Direktorat Jenderal Perhubungan Darat, sehingga tidak ideal. Hasil untuk evaluasi jumlah armada sebesar 28 unit, jumlah ini sangat berbeda dengan data yang diperoleh langsung dari Dinas Perhubungan Provinsi Gorontalo dengan jumlah angkutan memiliki izin trayek sebanyak 46 unit angkutan. Sehingga untuk angkutan umum rute Kota Gorontalo - Atinggola perlu dikurangi, karena kinerja angkutan masih dibawah standar dan jumlah armada yang sudah tidak sesuai lagi dengan yang ada terdaftar.

Road transport is done for the purpose of realizing efficient traffic and road transport. Public transport is one of the means needed to support the activities and mobility of most urban communities, however an urban advance will still require a public transport. However, urban transport has always been one of the urban transportation problems due to the large number and unbalanced, coupled with the irregular times and places of stops that often create congestion on the highway. No exception in the city of Gorontalo Trans Sulawesi road route Gorontalo city - Atinggola which is a connecting road between Gorontalo Province with North Sulawesi Province often occur congestion, one cause is the number of public transport passing very much but not balanced with the number of passengers. It is therefore necessary to evaluate the performance of public transport and the number of fleets on the route of Gorontalo City - Atinggola. The results of the performance evaluation of public transport route Gorontalo city - Atinggola not meet the existing performance standards, as seen from the load factor. For maximum static load factor is 27% and for dynamic load factor is 62%. While the performance standard for the load factor is set to 70%, so it is not ideal. The result for the evaluation of the number of fleet of 28 units, this number is very different from the data obtained directly from the Transportation Department of Gorontalo Province with the number of transport has route permit of 46 units of transport.
