Tterms for electric isolation substance is having strength in resisting electric field or what is known as isolation strength. If electric field is given to dielectric substance that exceeds its ability, the isolation will experience breakdown voltage at the dielectric subtance itself. Liquid isolation subtance should meet standard of ASTM namely at standard D-877 and D-1816 as isolation oil of high voltage.
This research is conducted in High Voltage Engineering Laboratory of Departmen of electrical Engineering, Fculty of Engineering, State University of Gorontalo and Chemistry Laboratory of Departmen of Chemistry Education, Facuty of Mathematics and Natural Science,State Univesity of Gorontalo. The tested sanples of isolation oil are cooking oil of Bimoli, Masku, Sania, Sovia, dan Filma. To test breakdown voltage of isolation oil particularly in cooking oil as function of phenol adding rise is by using testing method at standard of SPLN 49-1: 1982 for breakdown voltage â 30 Kv/2,5mm
Research finding shows that the higher percentage of additive (phenol) content in varied cooking oil (Bimoli, Masku, Sania, Sovia, and Filma) will decrease its dielectric strength. This condition does not meet both of standards as isolation oil of high voltage, where based on standard D-877 that is issued by ASTM, an isolation substance must own breakdown voltage for fewer than 30 Kv for 1 mm of intrrupted electrode or in other words, dielektric strength of isolation substance is approximately 30 Kv/mm. Meanwhile, according to standard D-1816, an isolation subtance must be able to resist voltage for 28 Kv for 1,02 mm of interrupted electrode.
