Total Suspended Particulate (TSP) are airborne dust particles measuring 1-500 microns and have a carcinogenic and non-carcinogenic risk to human health. Parking attendants are one of the jobs at high risk of being exposed to TSP. The study aims to analyze the ecological and health risks of Total Suspended Particulate (TSP) exposure to parking attendants on roads in Gorontalo City.
This observational study employs the Ecological Risk Assessment (ERA), and
Health Risk Assessment (HRA) approaches. Sixty respondents were obtained through a purposive sampling technique, while air samples were taken at 2 points per location in 12 locations. Data were analyzed descriptively through ERA and HRA.
The results show that there are 7 locations with TSP concentrations exceeding the threshold value according to Government Regulation Number 22 of 2021 concerning Implementation of Environmental Management Protection (0,23 m/m'), which is in the range of 0,24-0,27 mg/m'. Thus, TSP levels on roads in Gorontalo City are classified as unsafe. Characterization of ecological risk due to TSP exposure on roads in Gorontalo City is classified as dangerous for the environment. Five locations are classified as low hazards (HQ 0,1-1,0), and seven are classified as moderate hazards (HQ 1,1-10). Non-carcinogenic real-time TSP intake is around 0,001098467-0,018021233, while carcinogenic real-time SP intaRs is around 0,000470771-0,007723386. Characterization of health risks due to non-carcinogenic exposures is still in the category of safe or not
risky (RQ = 1), while carcinogerfic exposures are classified as unsafe or risky (ECR > 10). Therefore, parking attendantsc are advised to wear masks while working to avoid exposure to TSP.
