Abstract

Problem statement of this research is “what causes online game addiction in students?” The research aims to find out factors leading to online game addiction in students. The research is classified as quantitative descriptive research where its populations are 729 students at SMP Negeri 1 Gorontalo City while the samples are 40 students. The technique of data collection uses systematic random sampling abd uses quenstionnaire as its instrument. The research finding reveals that the perecentage analysis indicates that five indicators which are : lack of attention from close people obtains a perecentage of 64%, stress or depression obtains a perecentage of 63.2%, lack of activity obtains a perecentage of 58.7%, environment obtains a perecentage of 58.7%, and parenting obtains a perecentage of 55.8%. The results signify that the dominant factor leading to online game addiction in students is lack of attention from close people for 64% and the lowest is parenting for 55.8%.
