Abstract
The purpose of this study was to determine of land characteristics and land suitability class using parametric approach for potato, and to find out the limiting factors that were obstacles to the development of potato crops. This research was conducted in Boloak Village, Balantak Subdistrict, Banggai Regency, Central Sulawesi Province from March to May 2014. For determining of land characteristics using soil survey methods to three pedons (AP-1, AP-2, and AP-3). While to determining land suitability classes for potato using the parametric approach with the Storie Index Rating. The results showed that the land characteristics of the three pedon (AP-1, AP-2 and AP-3) had undergone land tillages with the presence of the Ap horizon. These three pedons has also developed a profile with the B horizon and based on the typical characteristic of the above, the three pedons are classified as Albic Natraqualfs. Land suitability class for all pedons (AP-1, AP-2 and AP-3) was included in the class 3 (medium) categories, so this can be planted for potato. The limiting factor for potato on pedon AP-1 and AP-3 are topsoil with heavy textures and lack of organic matter content. As well as the AP-2, besides high heavy (clay) textures, it is very poor soil drainage. Keywords: Characteristics, suitability, land, parametric, potatoes.
