Abstract
This research aimed at finding out the influence of planting space and the pruning time toward
the growth and production of cucumber. This research was conducted in Toto Selatan Village
of Kabila Sub-district, District of Bone Bolango from May to July 2016 by using two-factor
random factorial grup design. The first factor was the planting space that comprised of 40 cm
x 60 cm, 50 cm x 60 cm and 60 cm x 60 cm. The second factor was the pruning time that
comprised of once pruning time on 2 Weeks After Planting (WAP) and pruned twice on the
second week after planting and on the fourth week after planting. Each treatment was repeated
three times, hence, there were 18 units of experimental sites. This research showed that the
planting space treatment and pruning time influenced the growth and the product of cucumber
plants. The 40 cm x 60 cm planting space was the treatment with the highest result that
influenced the height, the number of leaves, length of fruit and the weight of fruit. The
pruning time significantly influenced the growth and the product. The prunning time on the
second and the fourth weeks after planting had given the best result in influencing the height,
the number of leaves, length of fruit and the weight of the cucumber fruit. There was an
interaction between planting space and pruning time toward the weight of the cucumber. The
combination of 40 cm x 60 cm planting space and the pruning time on the second week after
planting had given the best result in influencing the weight of the cucumber.
