Abstract

To give legal protection to women and their interests in society, a set of regulations should be prepared, as well as the socialization to make people aware of their rights and responsibilities. In addition, the non-legal support like affirmative actions from the segments of society is highly needed. The customary laws or local traditions and wisdoms are potentially to be the forum for women to have an access in gender justice and equality. However, a lot of obstacles are to be set aside in the context of customary laws and traditions. In the meantime, the main purpose of local tradition based-dispute resolution is to reach harmony. This purpose sometimes may underestimate the victims of gender-based violence.
