Abstract
ABSTARCT Usuman Fernando. (2015). The Slavery Struggle in Some Bob Marley Song (An Analysis By using Karl Marx Theory). English Department, Letter and Culture Faculty, Gorontalo State University. Supervisor: Rosma Kadir, S.Pd., M.A ; Co-supervisor: Farid Mohamad, S.Pd., M.A Song lyrics can express the social condition of the society. Song lyrics can also be used to deliver messages of freedom and peace. Some of the song lyrics that reflect the social condition are Bob Marley's songs. Bob Marley is a well known Jamaican singer. Bob Marley's song lyrics entitled Get Up Stand Up, Buffalo Soldier, Redemption song, and Zimbabwe. Reflect the voice of freedom. These songs reflect what happens to Jamaican people who used to be colonized by Spain and British. The research employs Karl Marx Theory and Historical approach as the grounding theory to analyze the voice of slavery struggle which is reflected in each song. The biography of Bob Marley and references about social condition in Jamaica are used as supporting information for the analysis. The results in findings of this research show that Bob Marley song lyrics voiced four types of the slavery form. First, the slavery not has a power in their own home land. The second, the upper classes do not want any changes because of the upper classes have steadily and established property owned by with, so that the upper classes directly maintain its status as a class on the slave will remain forever being a slave it was capitalism. The third, namely: estrangement from his work, the alienation of the act of producing, the alienation of human and others, alienation from its own species. The fourth, the lower classes who has long oppressed have a desire to conquer the upper classes, otherwise the upper classes will keep the role of his powers as the upper classes. The slaves could no longer fight because it too tired with the number of jobs in give his master not in accordance with their ability. Through his songs, Bob Marley spreads the messages of freedom and peace by referring to the Jamaican's experience in the colonial era. Keywords: Lyric song, Karl Marx Theory, and Historical approach
