Abstract
Wirda. 2012. An analysis of Students’ Risk-taking in Speaking English (A Research conducted at the second semester of English Department in 2011-2012 Academic Years, Gorontalo State University) This research focused on students’ risk-taking in speaking English. The objective of this research is to find out to what extent the students use the risk-taking in speaking English. Methodology of research was qualitative method while I used simple statistic in order to know students percentage of risk-taking in speaking English. The source of this study was the second semester of English Department, in the 2011-2012 Academic Years, Gorontalo State University and there consist of 26 students. Technique of collecting the data was obtains to distributing questionnaire. The statement consists of 18 numbers. In technique of collecting the data was obtains by identifying, classifying, and interpreting the data. The study found that in two indicators namely indicator of communication apprehension there are less than 70% in agreeing position and no more than 26.9% in disagreeing position, and indicator of specific situation of risk-taking there were less than 58% and no more than 12% in disagreeing position. The total result of students’ risk-taking in percentage of this research was almost in agree position or I assume that the students are same in quality as well native English speaking teacher.
