The research investigated the application of collaborative learning (CL) approach to increase students' writing skill. The aim of this research is to find out whether CL can increase students' writing skill or not. The research focuses on the improvement of students' score in writing skill after the students getting CL as the treatment. The population of this research is all of eight grade students of SMP Negeri 2 Suwawa. By using purposive sampling, the samples consist of 20 students. The research applied pre-experimental design as the method. The result of this study showed that the application of CL in the classroom can increase students' writing skill. It was proved by the analysis data that tcount is higher than tlist. The value of tcount is 26.03 and tlist is 18.5 at the level of significance = 0.05. Thus, the hypothesis of this study is acceptable. This study shows that CL can be used to develop students' writing skill and the English teacher can use CL in teaching and learning process.
