Skripsi. English Department, Letters and Culture Faculty, Gorontalo State University. First Advisor Helena Badu, S.Pd., M.Pd. and Second Advisor Dr. Jolanda H.D. Pilongo, M.Pd. This research is about a descriptive study on students' speaking ability in describing historical places, which is applied by using the theory of Scoring Rubric of Speaking Ability by Brown. The purpose of this research is to find out how the students' speaking ability in describing Historical Places. This research is conducted by using qualitative method. The source of the data is the students who have presented their article about historical places. The data is 30 students of SMA N 1 Tibawa who had sit in class MIA 1. The result of the research is students still difficult to speak English. It can be seen from 30 students, no one who can be categorized into excellent level, one students who categorized into good level, 10 students categorized into fair level, and the rest categorized into poor level. They have trouble in each component of speaking especially in fluency. They cannot speak fluently, because they had less practice in speaking Therefore, it can be concluded that students' ability in speaking still low, there were many mistakes they got when they present their article.
