Abstract
ABSTRACT Sarlina.(2017).An Analysis on Students' Problems in Listening Comprehension (A research conducted at MAN Batudaa )Skripsi. English Department, Letters and Culture Faculty, Gorontalo State University, Principal Advisor, Dra. Elsje L.Sambouw, M.Hum; and Nurlaila Husain,S.S.,M.Pd. The main purpose of this study wasto find out the students' problems in listening comprehension. This study was designed by using qualitative method. The participants of this study were referred to the students'class X MIA 1 at MAN Batudaa. The techniques of collecting the data were observation and interview. Observation was conducted in twomeetings. Thus, twenty six students were interviewed in order to find out the problems that students faced in Listening Comprehension. The techniques of analyzing the data were started from reducing the data, displaying the data, and concluding the data. The finding of this study showed that the students have problems in Pronunciation and vocabulary. In vocabulary, most of students have lack or limited vocabulary, it makes them cannot understand the contents of the text. And also, the students have problem in pronunciation of the speakers. Unclear pronunciation of speaker is considered as a source of listening problems. Many students thought that unclear pronunciation causes much difficulty for them in understanding their English listening lesson. For example, to distinguish the meaning of "she/he", "three/tree" etc. actually the speaker pronunciation is clear, but some of the students have trouble while their listening. It is caused by they have less concentration, less understanding about the concept, less of practice, the environment, and the audio tape is broken.Therefore, the students most expressed their English capability in Listening.
