This study aims to find out the impact of portfolio assessment on students reading comprehension. Portfolio is one of authentic assessment that is the set of collection of work and ability in the learning process. This study was designed by using qualitative method. The researcher took 20 students as a sample of research. In collecting the data, the researcher did the teaching practice which aims to collect student reading portfolio. The teaching practice was conducted in five meetings. Student portfolio consists of their works sample in five meetings and their self assessment. The technique of analyzing the data were identfying the data, classifying the data and interpreting the data. The finding shows that portfolio brings positive impact to student and teacher. For example, student comprehension was increasing every meeting. It is proved by their average score of portfolio in each meeting. The increasing was happened because, in portfolio, student was involved in assessment process. Hence, students can know the location of their error, then revise it in the next meeting. Moreover, portfolio assesment give them opportunity to manage and monitor their own progress. Hence, they are able to know their strength and weakness in reading comprehension.
