Abstract
ABSTRACT Sumiati I. Timumun. 321 411 004. 2016. An Analysis of Directive Illocutionary Acts in "Freaky Friday" Movie by Mary Rodgers. Skripsi. English Department. Letters and Culture Faculty. Gorontalo State University. Advisors (I) Dr. H. Syarifuddin Ahmad, M.Pd, (II) Fahria Malabar, S.Pd., M.A. The aims of this study are to find out the kinds of directive illocutionary acts and their meaning represented which being found in "Freaky Friday" movie. This research used qualitative method. As the results there are 50 utterances contain directive illocutionary found in Freaky Friday movie, the researcher found all five types of directive illocutionary by Searle's classification. The five types are: ordering, commanding, requesting, advising, and recommending. 1 utterance (2%) contain ordering, 31 utterances (62%) involved commanding, 8 utterances (16%) contain requesting, 7 utterances (14%) contain advising, and 3 utterances (6%) contain recommending. Moreover, in Freaky Friday movie, there are some directive acts found that have different meaning, for example: ordering can be used to order something. Commanding the speaker used to tell, beseech, convince, and made someone else to do something. Requesting can be used to ask and beg for something. Advising used to urge. And recommending is used to intent offer or suggests somebody to do something. Based on the results, the most frequently used in Freaky Friday movie is directive commanding, and the least frequently used is directive ordering. Variation of directive illocutionary happens because of the status and the distance relationship between the speaker and the listener in the conversation. Additionally, this study can be uses as reference for those who are interesting in doing research that concerning to pragmatics analysis. Keywords: Directive, Illocutionary, Freaky Friday Movie
