Abstract
ABSTRACT Sading Hidayati Nurul, (2015). Evaluation of the Students' Speaking Competence by Using Schulz Communicative Competence. English Department, Faculty of Letters and Culture. State University of Gorontalo. The principal supervisor was Dr. Syarifuddin Achmad, M.Pd, and The Co-Supervisor was Moh. Syahrun Ibrahim S.Pd M.Ed. This research was focused in evaluating students' speaking competence by using Schulz communicative competence scale in English department students on the fourth semester. The aim of this research was to find out students' speaking competence level in 4th semester by using Sculz communicative competence scale and to analyze some factors that support the students' speaking competence. The researcher applied descriptive quantitave method by using interview and questionnaire to collect the data. The total number of respondents were 35 respondents which requiring to enroll Speaking 3 course, and they had been passing some related courses: Speaking 1, Structure and Speaking 2. Based on data finding, the participants were classified into good classification of speaking rating scale. However, there were several aspects of speaking competence that classifying into poor classification, namely fluency, amount of communication, and quality of communication. Therefore, the researcher found there are several supporting factors in speaking competence such as motivation, self confidence, and social environment. In conclusion, English department students still have to concern all aspects that regarding with speaking competence and supporting factors to increase their ability in speaking.
