This qualitative research analyzes the psychological aspects that are ego and defense mechanism in Jeanne's Beauty and The Beast. Beauty and The Beast is one of the famous literature created by Jeanne Marie Le'Prince de Beaumont which can be observed by using psychological research. In order to analyze the ego and defense mechanism, the researcher uses psychological approach that is analyzing the character on Jeanne's Beauty and the Beast. In analyzing the data, the researcher uses three steps that are taking some notes; collecting, classify, categorize, and make a summary; and create the categories of data that has meaning. There are five main characters in Jeanne's story, included: (1) Maurice; Beauty's father (2) Beauty as the youngest of three sons and three daughters (3) Beast; the good man of the ugly monster (4) Beauty's brother (5) Beauty's sister. Findings indicated that there are 9 (nine) data found as ego and 12 (twelve) data categorized as defense mechanism of the characters in Beauty and The Beast. The ego were classified into 4 (four) kinds of ego that are ego as thinking, ego as feeling, ego as sensation, and ego as intuition. In addition, the types of defense mechanism found in Beauty and the Beast are rationalization, reaction formation, denial, and sublimation.
