This qualitative research discovers a descriptive study on students' competence in writing descriptive text. Descriptive text is a text which describes something like the characteristics of people, things or animals. The researcher conducted this research at SMP N 7 Gorontalo. In order to investigate the problems, the researcher used documents and interview with the participants are the students at class of VIII C which consists of 24 students. The researcher also used the rubric of writing that scored the students' writing based on four aspects that are content, organization, grammar, vocabulary, and mechanic. Findings indicated that the students' scores in content and organization are perfect, however they have a various score in grammar, vocabulary, and mechanic. The data shows that the highest score the students get is 90 (ninety) which is only 1 (one) participant, participants 1, got this highest score. The lowest score shown is sixty-five (65), which is only one (1) participant, participant16, got this lowest score.
