Mohammad, S.Pd, M.App. Ling The aim of this research was to find out the correlation between vocabulary mastery towards students' speaking ability in giving argument. The researcher used quantitative method in this research, and using r pearson product moment formula in answering the research questions of this research. The sample of the data was eleventh grade students of Science class A of SMA Negeri 1 Paguyaman in academic year 2015/2016. The research took thirty students as the sample. Test was the instrument of collecting the data of this research. The result of the correlation of both variable with using rpearson product moment formula was r= 0,99, and the value of r2=98,01%. Furthermore, based on the testing of significant obtained tcount=11.88, ttable= 2.76 and ttable=2.05. So, there is a significant correlation between vocabulary mastery towards students' speaking ability in giving argument. Based on the result of this research, it was suggested that the teacher need to ask the students to master vocabulary, because vocabulary is the first recognizable element of spoken language to develop.
