Abstract
ABSTRACT Mohamad Arif Ibrahim. 321 412 043. 2019. ..."Teaching Reading through PORPE Method Skripsi. English Department, Faculty of Letters and Culture, Universitas Negeri Gorontalo. The first advisor is Prof. Dr. Kartin Lihawa, M.Pd and second advisor is Sri Agriyanti Mestari, S.Pd., M.Ed, TESOL. The aim of this study was to improve the students reading ability by using PORPE method. The sample was 30 students that took 20% from 150 of students in the eight class of SMPN 1 Kabila. This study used PORPE method ( predict, organize, rehearse, practice, and evaluate ), questionnaire as the quantitative data. Based on the result, the quantitative analysis showed that the basic of students reading ability in Recount text was 66% and after applying PORPE Method was improved to 86%. Furthermore, the result showed that PORPE Method could make the students a good condition in learning process and improved students' reading ability. Moreover, the result found that there are many advantages of teaching using PORPE Method such as stimulate the students analyzed better, discipline, increased self-confidence, increased students mastering the material, and organized the student reading nicely. However, there were also some disadvantages of teaching reading using PORPE Method such as sometimes students could not understand the meaning of text and spend a lot of time to applying this method. Generally, based on calculating of testing hypotesis, there was differences between tcount = -91,92 and tlist = 2.00, where tcount tlist. It means that the hypotesis was recieved, it can be conclude that the students reading ability can be improved by using PORPE Method. Keywords: Teaching Reading, PORPE Method
