Abstract
Aisyah Sarjono, 321412056: The Use of Uemanatic Mapping Strategy in Increasing Students' Reading Komprehension in Descriptive Text. Skripsi. English Educational Study Program. Faculty of Letters and Culture, Gorontalo State University. Principal Advisors Karmila Machmud, S.P.d, M.A., Ph.D and Rahmawaty Mamu, S.Pd, M.Pd. The aim of this research was to find out does the use of semantic mapping strategy could increase student' reading comprehension in descriptive text at SMP Negeri 3 Bukal. the researcher gained the data by using quantitative method. the design of this research was pre-experimental design with one group pre-test and post-test. the population of this research was whole student in the 8th grade of SMP Negeri 3 Bukal in 2018/2019 academic year. the sample of this research was the VIIIB which consist of 24 students In collecting the data, the resercher used multiple choice test which consist of 25 items. The result of the analysis showed that there was an increase in students' score in post-test (433) than pre-test (248) after applied the strategy. In addition, the hypothesis was tested by using t-test formula. The criteria used to verify the hypothesis was accept H1 if tcount ttable. In this case, the researcher found taht the the tcount ttable (20,3972,069) with the level of significance = 0, 05. based on the result of the data analysis, the hypothesi of this research is accepted. It can be conclude that the used of semantic mapping strategy can increase the students' reading comprehension in descriptive text.
