Abstract
Pragmatic is the study of how language relates to the expression and intention of the speaker to the listener based on context. The expression and intention of the speaker to the listener can be examined through the film. This research deals with the analysis of illocutionary acts in "Me Before You film by Jojo Moyes. This research uses qualitative method to explain the data, and the analysis applies Leechâs theory to determine the illocutionary acts. The researcher discovers five kinds of illocutionary acts on Searleâs theory. There are assertive, directive, commissive, expressive, and declaration. As the results, directive is the most commonly found because the speaker and the listener have a close relationship such as couples, and co-workers. This research is not only expected to be useful for the readers, but also as a reference for the further researcher.
