English Department, Letters and Culture Faculty, Universitas Negeri Gorontalo. Advisor (1) Dr. H. Syarifudin A, M.Pd (2) Indri Wirahmi Bay, S.Pd., MA. This research focuses on analyzing the violation of quantity and relevance maxims in frozen movie directed by Jennifer Lee. The objectives of the research are to find out the violation of quantity and relevance maxims in cooperative principle and the factors that influence the speaker's violate their utterances. Qualitative descriptive method is applied to analyze and describe the research result. The data analysis is based on Grice (1975)'s classification of maxims and Cook (1989)'s factors why speakers violate the maxims. The result of this research shows that there are 9 utterances violated maxim of quantity and 16 utterances violated maxim of relevance. The violation maxim of relevance dominates in this research because most of conversation not relevant with what the speaker need, and the factor dominating in this research is change the topic because it happened based on the speaker or hearer situation. Referring to the result, the researcher suggests to the next researchers to conduct a study of maxims focusing on the same or the others movie because there will be more various types of maxims in order to gain the different result.
