Abstract
ABSTRACT Srinovita Rasyid. 321 414 016. 2018. "The Effect of Implementing Clustering Questions Technique towards Students Skill in Writing Descriptive Text" Undergraduated Thesis. Department of English Language Education, Faculty of Letters and Culture, Universitas Negeri Gorontalo. The first advisor is Nonny Basalama, M.A.,Ph.D and second advisor is Yusna Bantulu, S.Pd., M.A The main objective of this research was aimed to identify whether the use of Clustering Questions Technique give an effect to improve students' skill in writing descriptive text. One group pretest-posttest design was used in this research. The population was the first year students in SMP Negeri 1 Bulango Utara in academic year 2017/2018 with the total number of 99 students, and 26 students were taken as a sample. The data from the students were collected by using writing test. The data obtained were analyzed by using analytic score. From the calculation of the pretest data, it found that the mean score of students was about 26.11 then after giving treatment about eight times with the implementation of Clustering Questions Technique, the mean score of students in posttest was shown the improvement from pretest become 70.38. In testing the significant differences between pretest and posttest, the researcher analyzed the score from the students by using t-test formula. t obtained was 12.28 and the t-table value at 0.05 p level and the 26 df was 2.5. So, the t obtained > t table (12.28 > 2.5). It means that there is a significant effect to the students' ability in writing descriptive text to their writing achievements which was taught trough Clustering Questions Technique. Therefore, it can be concluded that the Clustering Question Technique improved students writing ability. Key words: Writing skill, Clustering questions technique, Descriptive Text
