Abstract

Tuti Hardianti Daeng Amang. 321 415 031. 2020. An Analysis of Michael's Psychopathic Problem in Prodigal Son's Novel by Danielle Steel. English Department, Faculty of Letters and Culture, Gorontalo State University. Advisor (1) Dr. Mery Balango, M.Hum (2) advisor Rusni Podungge, S,Pd., M.A Psychopath is mental disorders whose main characteristic is having an inability to adjust himself. Also, a psychopath also does not have moral and social responsibilities.This research aims to analyze Michael's character in Prodigal Son's novel as the character that has psychopathic problem. This research will be conducted by using descriptive-qualitative method and this study uses the concept of psychopath by Robert D.Hare to reveal psychopath act of Michael in the novel. Based on the data, the writer finds that it is true that Michael is psychopath. As a result, Michael covers four criteria of psychopath such as deceitful and manipulative, lack of empathy, lack of remorse or guilt, and early behavior problem.
