Abstract

ABSTRACT Adi Tia Mokoolang, 2022. NIM 321415050.The Habit of Extensive Reading Toward Reading Ability. English Department, Faculty of Letters and Culture, State University of Gorontalo. Principal Supervisor; Dr. Syarifuddin Ahmad., M.Pd. Co-Supervisor; Muzdalifah Mahmud, S.Pd., M.Pd. The aims of this research is to explore what are English department students' extensive reading habit and what are the effects of extensive reading habit toward the students reading ability based on students' personal experiences. This research used qualitative approach and collects the data by interview and documentation. The researcher took 3 respondents for the interview session of students of English Department. The result of this research revealed students' habit on extensive reading which were (1) Attitude toward reading, (2) reading frequency, (3) books read, and (4) reading motivation. Thus, it can be concluded that students' habit on extensive reading give positive effect on student reading ability such as reading comprehension and vocabulary.
